The Mission of the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry is to serve its membership and the public by advocating for the optimal oral health of infants, children and adolescents.

Parents are invited to explore our site and to locate Pediatric Dentists with our Membership Directory. If you need more information about your child's oral health, you should visit the AAPD's Parent Resource Center or consult with your own Pediatric Dentist. Children and teens can have interactive fun at the ADA's Games and Animations Site.

Dr. Burt Edelstein Discusses Oral Health Provisions in Health Care Reform and CHIPRA - Dr. Burton Edelstein, CDHP founder and Columbia University faculty member, discusses how the oral health provisions in CHIPRA and Health Care Reform represent a comprehensive systems change approach to oral health policy. CSPD 2010 Annual Meeting in Cancun Presentation Handouts - The handouts for New Dentists, CAMBRA and other information from the meeting educational programs are now available for downloading in the Latest News.

Online Continuing Education - CSPD proudly presents a series of Web Based Pediatric Dental Continuing Education Lectures which feature streaming audio and video. These courses are designed to educate dental professionals on the wide range of subjects essential to pediatric dentistry. Select and purchase a course to view, take the exam and receive a certificate-of-completion, all online. Lectures are approved for CA, AGD, Florida and ADA CERP CE credits.

CSPD Encourages Its Members to Become Actively Involved - If it is "the time" for you, try reviewing CSPD's governance documents - the Administrative Policy and Procedure Manual, the Constitution and Bylaws, and our Strategic Plan - located on the Members Only Page. Once you identify your committees of interest, visit the Leadership Page where you can email your thoughts to President Lindsey Robinson or to the other committee chairs.

Mobile/Portable Dental Care Provider Guidelines - Read more about this effort, led by the California Dental Association and the Dental Health Foundation, to assist school districts approached by mobile/portable dental care providers, in the ALARM.

School Absences for Dental Appointments - California Education Code specifically provides that absences for dental care shall be excused. CSPD and CDA have created a joint statement to address concerns of parents and/or school administrations regarding these professional visits. CSPD has developed a template for a School Attendance Release Form which may be downloaded and customized by members for individual office printing and distribution (This is a MS Word doc file). Dental Assisting Structure and Educational Requirements - With the passage of AB 2637 in 2008, beginning January 1, 2010, dental assisting scope of practice, and educational and licensing requirements, will change. School Entrance Oral Health Assessments Legislation requires children entering kindergarten or first grade to provide an oral health assessment no earlier than 12 months prior to school enrollment. The Oral Health assessment must be provided prior to May 31st of the school year.
CSPD members play a critical role in getting this School Entrance Oral Assessments up and running.

Warren Brandli Leadership Intern Program - California pediatric dentists in training or in the early stages of their career are encouraged to apply! This is a great opportunity to participate in the CSPD governance and advocacy activities, attend internal organizational and inter-professional meetings, and complete a project designated by the CSPD Board President.
