Dear CSPD family,

CSPD recognizes that these devastating California fires are affecting so many good families and that certainly include some our members, their families, homes and offices. We hope and pray that we all once again get though yet another disaster with as little damage and suffering as possible. Stay safe.

Best wishes from CSPD during these difficult times.

I will include here a copy of the message sent to California dentist by Peter DuBois, Executive Director, CDA, which has important information on how to give and receive help.

Dear Colleagues,

The loss of life and devastation caused by the Northern and Southern California area wildfires is heartbreaking to say the least. Thousands have been affected as the fires ravage through their lives — destroying homes, businesses, schools and entire communities. Currently, we know of several dentists and their staff members who have lost their homes.

To help dental professionals in need, the Foundation has established a Disaster Relief Grant for individuals — a one-time, single-installment grant that provides financial assistance of up to $2,500 per California dentist, dental staff member or component staff member for immediate and emergency needs (food, shelter, clothing, etc.) as a direct result of the October 2017 California wildfires. The Disaster Relief Grant is also available to nonprofit organizations that meet eligibility requirements. For assistance with recovery efforts, we encourage those who have been affected by these wildfires to apply for this grant by visiting cdafoundation.org.

If you would like to help your colleagues by contributing to this grant, visit cdafoundation.org/donate.

Additionally, The Dentists Insurance Company is offering guidance and support to assist members in dealing with the impact on their practices. To reach a TDIC service representative or a risk management analyst, call 800.733.0633.

As we start the weekend, our thoughts and prayers are with the people and communities impacted by these fires and the first responders working to extinguish the flames.

Be safe,
Peter DuBois
Executive Director CDA

I remember all too well receiving an emergency phone call back in 2009 during the Tahoe annual meeting about a firestorm, created by terrible winds that ripped across an area of Palm Springs where my family lives. We hurried home to find to our relief our house still standing. There were only a few burnt palm trees, a half burnt wooden beam, holes caused by embers in outside furniture and a completely melted spa area. The roof on the house behind us burnt down. The firemen saved our house and most others. These recent fires bring back the pain.
