District VI Trustee Report - Spring 2010
6/6/10

Jade Miller, DDS
AAPD District VI Trustee

Dr. Jade MillerI want to congratulate the CSPD and specifically, Oariona Lowe, on an outstanding Annual Meeting in Cancun, Mexico. Everything about it was a tremendous success: the resort, the scientific sessions and the social events. Co-sponsoring your meeting with the Western Society of Pediatric Dentistry Annual Meeting expands the potential attendees and fosters collegiality amongst our district (District VI).

I would like to encourage everyone to attend the AAPD Annual Meeting in Chicago on May 27 -30. It promises to be a great session in a terrific city. On Thursday, May 27th, the AAPD Leadership Institute is putting on a Mini Leadership Institute class which provides a good overview for those who may be considering attending the Institute.

In Congress’ recent passage of the Healthcare Reform Act, they included provisions for oral health services for children. I would encourage you to read the details by going to the Children’s Dental Health Project website to see a summary:  www.cdhp.org.

The American Board of Pediatric Dentistry currently has 2743 diplomates, which is 53% of all eligible AAPD members. The AAPD recommends that all pediatric dentists consider becoming diplomates. Administration of the Oral Clinical examination will be given once annually in September. For time-limited diplomates, a Renewal of Certification Protocol will be launched in July, 2010 so check their website for further information (www. abpd.org).

As always, e-mail me at  jmkiddds@aol.com  if you have any questions or concerns.
