Dr. Shukan Kanuga completed her pediatric dentistry training with a MSD degree from the University of Washington, Seattle. She was a dentist in India before she came to the US in 2002 to pursue her DDS at the UCLA School of Dentistry. She continued her training in a General Practice Residency in Downey, California. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She practices in a couple of group practices in the San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita.

Dr. Kanuga serves as an editor at the San Fernando Valley Dental Society, a member on the “Leadership Development Committee” of CDA, and an Evidence Reviewer for the American Dental Association. She lives in the San Fernando Valley with her husband and her two children. In her leisure time, she enjoys cooking, reading, teaching Zumba, spending time with her friends and family, and traveling. She is excited to serve on the CSPD Board to continue to work towards the mission of advocating for the oral health of children in California.

Dr. Kim Whippy is a California native, born in San Francisco and raised in the East Bay. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Cell and Developmental Biology and graduated with honors in 2006 from the University of California, Santa Barbara. This is where she first worked part-time as a dental assistant and fell in love with the field. She received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree Cum Laude from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 2011 and was awarded the Silver Medal for scholastic excellence, along with several academic and performance scholarships. She went on to complete a one-year General Practice Residency at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii before completing her pediatric specialty training at the New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center in 2014.

Kim is thrilled to be back in California after six chilly years on the East Coast and is excited to be joining the amazing community of pediatric dentists here. In her spare time, Kim enjoys participating in community and global health mission trips, traveling, running, biking, hiking, snowboarding and spending time with her two beautiful nieces.
