CSPD Foundation Grants and Awards
Funded primarily by annual gifts from CSPD members and corporate sponsors, The CSPD Foundation funds programs through grants in support of the goal of enhancing pediatric dentistry education at all levels. Since its inception, the Foundation has invested
more than $1.5 million in this effort.
In addition to the following grant programs, The CSPD Foundation is proud to support the Warren Brandli Internship Program, the Santos Cortez Legislative Advocacy Internship Program, continuing education programs at the CSPD/WSPD Annual Meeting, pediatric
dentistry student interest groups at California dental schools and lunch and learn sessions for pediatric dentistry residents around the state.

Grant Opportunities
Research Grants
- Maximum award - $10,000, one per year, per person.
- Awarded to a resident/graduate student, recent graduate (2 years) or educator (half time or more).
- Application date is flexible with a quarterly review
- To be announced and funded when approved.
- Application must include documentation of the goals and details of the project, as well as the completion of a budget.
- Application is to be cosigned by department chair or program director. Faculty advisor to be listed on application. Co-signer and advisor must be a CSPD member.
- A report is to be presented to the Foundation at the completion of the project, or two years, whichever is sooner.
- The Foundation is to be acknowledged in all presentations and publications.

Program Enhancement Grant (PEG)
Included in this category will be proposals which will in some way enhance a pediatric dentistry training program. The Foundation board will look favorably on proposals offering new solutions to existing problems.
Examples of PEG grant proposals:
- strategic planning retreat for all faculty
- a transportation fund to improve patient appointment compliance
- perks which acknowledge the contribution of volunteer and part time faculty (parking, lunch meetings, etc.)
Applications for these awards, with a maximum of $8,000, will be accepted at any time; proposals will be considered and awards announced quarterly.

The Steven Neithamer CSPD Foundation Educational Grant for Scholarly Activities
1. Introduction
The CSPD Foundation is sponsoring an educational grant for scholarly activities is established to provide financial assistance to junior faculty members engaged in academic and research pursuits. This grant aims to support scholarly activities that enhance
pediatric dentistry educational experiences, foster innovation, and contribute to academic excellence.
2. Purpose
The purpose of the Educational Grant for Scholarly Activities is to:
- Encourage and support academic research and projects that contribute to the advancement of our specialty.
- Provide the junior faculty with opportunities to engage in scholarly activities that may not be otherwise financially feasible.
- Promote academic and professional growth by funding participation in conferences, workshops, seminars, and other educational events.
3. Availability
The Educational Grant for Scholarly Activities is available to:
- Pediatric Dentistry Full Time Junior Faculty (0.5 to 1.0 FTE) in California
- An active member of the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry
4. Grant Amounts
The grant amounts will vary based on the scope and nature of the scholarly activities, as well as the availability of funds. The grant committee will determine the specific amount awarded to each recipient based on the following considerations:
- The academic merit and potential impact of the proposed scholarly activities.
- The total number of applications received, and the overall budget allocated for the grant program.
Typical grant amounts range from $1,000 to $5,000.00 though exceptional proposals may be considered for larger awards.
5. Application and Selection Process
Applicants must complete and submit The Steven Neithamer CSPD Foundation education Grant for Scholarly Activities application form, including all required supporting documents, by the specified deadline. The selection process involves a thorough review
of applications by the CSPD Foundation Board of Directors which evaluates each submission based on the following criteria:
- Academic achievement and potential.
- The relevance and significance of the proposed scholarly activities.
- The quality and feasibility of the applicant’s personal statement and supporting
documents.
Final decisions are made by the CSPD Foundation Board of Directors. Successful applicants will be notified of their award and the amount granted by email.
7. Reporting and Accountability
Grant recipients are required to:
- Use the funds strictly for the purposes outlined in their application.
- Submit a detailed report upon completion of the funded activities, documenting the use of the funds and the outcomes achieved.
- Acknowledge the support of the Educational Grant for Scholarly Activities in any publications or presentations resulting from the funded activities.
Failure to comply with these requirements may result in the forfeiture of the grant and/or the requirement to return the funds
