CSPD Foundation Grants and Awards

Funded primarily by annual gifts from CSPD members and corporate sponsors, The CSPD Foundation funds programs through grants in support of the goal of enhancing pediatric dentistry education at all levels. Since its inception, the Foundation has invested more than $1.5 million in this effort.

In addition to the following grant programs, The CSPD Foundation is proud to support the Warren Brandli Internship Program, the Santos Cortez Legislative Advocacy Internship Program, continuing education programs at the CSPD/WSPD Annual Meeting, pediatric dentistry student interest groups at California dental schools and lunch and learn sessions for pediatric dentistry residents around the state.

Grant Opportunities

Bridge the Gap (BTG) Grant

  1. This grant focuses on efforts which will assist with the recruitment, development or retention of full or part time faculty, as well as volunteer faculty at a postdoctoral specialty program in California.
  2. Applications for this award, with a maximum of $25,000, will be accepted through January 30, 2016.
  3. Grant recipients will be announced at the CSPD Annual Meeting and funds are to be expended during the 2016-17 academic year.
  4. This is a competitive grant and consideration will be given to proposals demonstrating sustainability, i.e. additional funding sources such as alumni donors, university support, matching grants.

Program Enhancement Grant (PEG)

Included in this category will be proposals which will in some way enhance a pediatric dentistry training program. The Foundation board will look favorably on proposals offering new solutions to existing problems.

Examples of PEG grant proposals:

  • strategic planning retreat for all faculty
  • a transportation fund to improve patient appointment compliance
  • perks which acknowledge the contribution of volunteer and part time faculty (parking, lunch meetings, etc.)

Applications for these awards, with a maximum of $8,000, will be accepted at any time; proposals will be considered and awards announced quarterly.

Research Grants

  1. Maximum award - $10,000, one per year, per person.
  2. Awarded to a resident/graduate student, recent graduate (2 years) or educator (half time or more).
  3. Application date is flexible with a quarterly review
  4. To be announced and funded when approved.
  5. Application must include documentation of the goals and details of the project, as well as the completion of a budget.
  6. Application is to be cosigned by department chair or program director. Faculty advisor to be listed on application. Co-signer and advisor must be a CSPD member.
  7. A report is to be presented to the Foundation at the completion of the project, or two years, whichever is sooner.
  8. The Foundation is to be acknowledged in all presentations and publications.

Presentation Grants

  1. Awarded to a resident/graduate student or new graduate (1 year) for a presentation at a meeting (except those of CSPD, WSPD or AAPD).
  2. Maximum award - $750, one per year, per person.
  3. Application date is flexible with a quarterly review.
  4. To be announced and funded when approved.
  5. Application is to be cosigned by department chair or program director. Faculty advisor to be listed on application. Co-signer must be a CSPD member.
  6. Application must include documentation of use of funds. Eligible for travel, hotel, food and miscellaneous expenses associated with the presentation.
  7. A report is to be submitted to the Foundation within one year of the award.
  8. The Foundation is to be acknowledged at the time of the presentation.
