Membership Information

Active

An applicant for Active membership shall be a member of, or an applicant to, the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry; has met the advanced education requirements of the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the United States or Canada for the ethical announcement of practice as a pediatric dentist; and shall be in active practice, teaching, dental administration, research or military service. Active members enjoy all membership privileges, including voting on all issues brought before the annual Business Meeting, holding elective office and serving on committees, and receiving membership publications including the CSPD Bulletin.

Active: Military

***Military Personnel Active Membership
Active Military personnel, otherwise eligible for Active membership, stationed in or out of California receive a 50% reduction in annual dues and no change in membership privileges.

Associate

Associate membership is available to dentists educationally qualified in one of the other dental specialty areas recognized by the American Dental Association and to pediatricians and other physicians maintaining good standing in their professional organizations. Associate members may not use the Society name, membership status or logo, nor imply special expertise or training in pediatric dentistry. Associate members may not vote nor hold elective office.

Affiliate

This category of membership is available to general dentists in the United States and Canada, who, at the time of application, are members of the American or Canadian Dental Associations. Affiliate members may not use the Society name, membership status or logo, nor imply special expertise or training in pediatric dentistry. Affiliate members may not hold elective office nor vote on issues before the annual Business Meeting.

Allied

Dental and other allied health professionals, including but not limited to dental hygienists, dental assistants, physician assistants and nurses, whose interests are consistent with the mission of CSPD, are eligible for this membership category. Allied members may not use the Society name, membership status, or logo, nor imply special expertise or training in pediatric dentistry.

Friends of Dentistry

Individuals who do not qualify for other membership categories, but whose interests are consistent with the mission of CSPD, are eligible for this membership category. Friends receive copies of CSPD communications and publications, including the Bulletin and may not use the Society name, membership status, or logo, nor imply special expertise or training in pediatric dentistry.

Pre-Doctoral Student

This category of membership is available to predoctoral students enrolled in an educational program in dentistry approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the United States or Canada. Predoctoral student privileges include attending the annual business meeting of the Society and receiving all general membership communications and publications. Predoctoral Student membership terminates on July 1 following completion of the individual’s educational program.

International

International membership is available to dentists living and professionally operating outside of the United States and Canada who maintain membership in good standing in their recognized foreign dental association or specialty organization. International members may not vote, serve as other than consultants to committees, nor hold elective office. Educationally qualified pediatric dentists otherwise eligible for Active membership, excluding those in active military service, living and working outside of the United States and Canada, are also eligible for this membership category, but without the privileges of Active membership.

International: Student

This category of membership is available to all students enrolled in any educational program in dentistry or pediatric dental training in a country other than the United States or Canada approved by a national organization comparable to the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the United States or Canada. International Students may serve as consultants to committees, but not vote nor hold elective office. International Student membership terminates on completion of the educational program, but, upon application, may be converted to International membership. Privileges are identical to that of the Postdoctoral Student.
